From small beginnings.
We were originally established in 1977 as a small retail shop selling photocopying services on Irongate in Derby. Adam Noble, now Managing Director joined the sales team in 1989 when the turnover was just £250k.
A few name changes along the way.
Our name and corporate logo has changed a few times throughout the last 40 years, evolving to reflect the company’s growth. Today’s logo and brand identity illustrates the successful, customer focussed corporate company we have become.
A move to a new 50,000 sq. ft. office and warehouse premises at Kingsway Industrial Park in Derby in 1995 signalled the start of our journey from an Office Supplies provider to a Business Services provider offering fully managed business solutions. The shop in Irongate, where it all started was closed in 2006.
We made huge investments in digital print production equipment and web to print technology. Through our partnership with Xerox, we have become one of the most innovative print companies in the world. Yes, the world. We were one of the first companies in the UK to offer a single source for all of their office supplies and print, all ordered via the web.
Since then we have invested in more specialist services, in order to ensure we are constantly adding more value to our customers.
Almost 40 years on, our hardworking team has helped turn Irongate into one of the UK’s leading business service providers with a turnover of £19m. Although our heritage is in Office Supplies and Stationery, we are a specialist supplier of Office Supplies, Hygiene, Catering, Workwear and PPE, Office Interiors and Furniture, Promotional Merchandise and Print and Marketing Communication services. We deal with some of the UK’s best known brands including Thorntons, Cadbury, Eon, Stratstone and Vision Express.

Irongate has built a very creditable financial rating and is proud of its reputation for offering financial stability, security and total peace of mind to its customers. We run our business in a very financially sound way with no borrowings or liabilities. We put our profits back into the company allowing us to invest in the latest technology and also train and retain the best staff in order to give our customers the greatest customer experience.

Irongate is a people business. We believe our success is down to a powerful combination of ‘People’ and ‘Passion’. Our people are our foundation and it’s their passion that sets us apart. We have over 100 talented and dedicated individuals who run our business and service our customers, from people giving their best in our offices, warehouses, production facility and out on the road. Together we make a formidable team. Within the current workforce, more than a third have been working with us for more than ten years, seven have been with us for 20 years and three have been with us for over 30 years.
